- By when must I cancel my car insurance?
- For annual contracts (01 Jan–31 Dec), the cancellation must have been received by the insurer by 30 November at the latest — not dispatched, but received (§ 11 paras. 2, 3 VVG). Allow at least 3 working days if sending by registered mail.
- What does 'receipt' mean?
- Receipt means that the letter has actually entered the insurer's sphere of control (letterbox, post room, etc.). The dispatch date does not count. It is therefore recommended to send by registered post with acknowledgement of receipt at least 3–4 working days before 30 November.
- What is a special cancellation?
- If the insurer raises the premium under an adjustment clause, you have the right to cancel the contract within 1 month of receiving the notice of increase (§ 40 para. 1 VVG). The cancellation takes effect at the earliest when the premium increase becomes effective.
- What if my contract doesn't end on 31 December?
- This calculator applies only to the most common case: standard annual contracts with a 01 Jan–31 Dec period. For other contract terms or special periods, please check your insurance policy.
